So, I've decided to write my first post about something close to my heart in the beauty department, fake tan. Before you assume I am some kind of walking orange, please let me assure you that I can't think of anything worse. For me, finding the right fake tan is essential in the winter months as I am naturally quite tanned, but by the time April comes, I'm in desperate need of a healthy glow, as I'm sure many of us are.
In light of this, I've reviewed 4 of the most popular fake tan brands and decided which one to keep and which ones are not worth spending the money on, saving you the hassle.
1. St Tropez Bronzing Lotion (£20.49)
For me, St Tropez will always be one of my go-to brands for fake tan. This bronzing lotion gives an even coverage when used correctly (after exfoliating and moisturising), but does have the tendency to rub off on clothing, bedsheets, you name it. It turns skin a deep brown colour, rather than having orange accents, which is perfect if you don't want to look too fake, but if you have fair skin this is not the tanning product for you! It comes out quite brown, even on my medium tone skin, so I would advise mixing it with moisturiser if you have a paler complexion.
Rating: 8/10
2. Beyond Bronze by Fake Bake - Airbrush Self Tanner (£16.00)
This spray on self tan is incredibly reliable, developing a lovely looking tan overnight when applied in the evening. However, take it from me as I learnt the hard way, it leaves a pink film over everything when you spray it. My shower was coated in a layer of pink after each use, and if you accidentally get it wet even up to a coupe of hours after applying it, it will rub off quite considerably, leaving unwanted white patches behind.
Rating: 7/10 (good tan, messy bathroom)
3. St Moriz Instant Self Tanning Mousse (£4.99)
As a cheaper alternative, St Moriz gives a good even tan, without that orangey tone which some other brands such as Garnier give you. I would advise that you do not use this fake tan on your face as it does not spread so evenly and may become blotchy, however, for the legs and arms, this tan will do nicely if you are on a budget.
Rating: 6/10
4. Bondi Sands Self Tanning Lotion Light/Medium (£14.99)
This was by far my favourite fake tanning product out of all of the ones reviewed (yes, even better than St Tropez). I found the colour perfect for giving a light, natural looking tan. There is also the option to build the colour up by applying a couple of layers of the lotion (30 minute gaps in-between applications). The colour is not orange based at all and gives a warm caramel tone to the skin, including the face. This is the fake tan product that I will be using from now on, and what's even better is that it is on special offer in Superdrug at the moment for only £11.99!
